Student Involvement

 Series

Scope and Contents

This series documents Popp’s years as a student, both prior to and during her time at UNC Charlotte.

The Academics subseries includes research papers and projects such as Popp’s senior project on women political candidates and her independent study project relating to her service as student body president. A file on various honors and awards she received during her four years at UNC Charlotte (1976-1980) and one containing each year’s student identification card can also be found under Academics.

The Athletics subseries consists of a single file containing correspondence, brochures, and other material related to Popp’s tenure on the UNC Charlotte women’s basketball team.

The Residence Life subseries contains correspondence from hall mates, hall newsletters, photographs, and other material related to dormitory life and to Popp’s time as a resident advisor.

The Student Government subseries consists of records and photographs of Popp’s involvement as a student legislator and as student body president, including campaign material, goals, journal columns authored by Popp, memoranda sent and received in her capacity as student body president, and name plaques. Of particular note are two files pertaining to Popp’s visit to the White House during President Carter’s administration and a copy of the Nursing Care Reform Act of 1978, which Popp authored and which was later adopted by the North Carolina State Legislature.

A single oversize file of signs for the 1978 liquor-by-the-drink campaign is also included in this series.
