Renwick and Wilkes Mining Interests, 1829 - 1905

Scope and Contents

Primarily legal documents involving the purchase and operation of mines and other businesses owned by the Renwick, Wilkes, and, to a lesser extent, Smedberg families in North and South Carolina. Mines include the Maxwell, the McComb (also known as the Charlotte and the St. Catherine), the Catawba, and the Capps. Includes items (1829 60) relating to J. Humphrey Bissell's claims to some of the property; and stock certificates (1853) for the St. Catherine's Gold Mining Co. Box 2, folder 4 contains a map of the Capps Mine (restricted access).
