Biographical / Historical
Bleeka Ritch Kerr lived in Charlotte, N.C. during the 1900s. She maintained an active correspondence with several soldiers during World War I, who wrote to her about the war and their feelings towards her. She also received a letter from her brother, Charles Ritch, who enclosed a piece of a German airplane wing.
Bleeka Ritch married Thomas F. Kerr around 1921. Her husband was a cotton merchant and later an insurance agent. Their residence was located in Charlotte, N.C.
Helen F. Johnston may have been Bleeka’s niece. Johnston corresponded with two men during World War II. According to the Charlotte City Directories, she lived with the Kerr Family. Johnston worked as a stenographer for Pritchard Paint and Glass.
