Biographical / Historical
Mr. Howard graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a BA in Sociology. He was awarded a certification as a Housing Development Finance Professional from the National Development Council.
Some of the honors and opportunities awarded to Mr. Howard: 2003 Pride Award for Mothers of Murdered Offspring (MOMO) as Organization of the Year (he was co-founder of MOMO); 1998 Fellow of the NC Institute of Political Leadership ; Office of Congressman Mel Watt (NC12) representative at 2003 & 2004 Annual National African American Leadership Summits ; 1997 Charlotte Observer “New Generation of Leadership” ; fellow of the GMF .
Mr. Howard has served on many church (primarily Berean Seventh Day Adventist) and community boards and projects. He has served in local government from Charlotte City Council to State Government at N.C. Department of Transportation’s Chief Deputy Secretary and Federal Government at Associate Administrator of Policy and Governmental Affairs for the FHA. He served as Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Fund Development for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership at one point and also on the Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Commission. He served in several roles with the NAACP, also.
Mr. Howard married Mary Walker and their children are Marketa, Shawna, and Chase.
