Content Description
The collection contains a wide variety of material covering the work of J.N. Pease & Associates over the past 80 years. It includes subject files of projects the firm has worked on, which contain photographs of the buildings as well as some architectural drawings and planning documents related to the work. Additionally, there is a large series of slides of Pease's projects and also a few negatives. There is a small collection of planning books, mostly for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center, as well as a few scrapbooks containing newspaper articles about Colonel J.N. Pease, Sr. and the work of his firm. There is also one 16mm film roll that has footage of the Ivey Building, YMCA and Piedmont Courts.

Biographical / Historical
James Norman Pease and James Stenhouse founded Pease Engineering & Architecture in 1938 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Over the years, the firm has designed many well-known buildings throughout Charlotte and North Carolia. In 1976, the Modernist-trained James Norman Pease, Jr. took over as President of the company and was involved in building the First Union Tower, Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center, Charlotte Observer Building, Duke Power Computer Center and the WSOC Building. The firm also designed several buildings on the campuses of UNCC, CPCC, UNC, Appalachian State, NC State and ECU. In 2010, LaBella Associates acquired Pease and the two companies merged. The firm remains an active organization in Charlotte and North Carolina with a legacy of impacting the region's built environment.
