Biographical / Historical
Helen Avery Williams (Mrs. McChord Williams) was born 11 November 1912 and passed away 30 September 2012. She was the eldest of eight children born to Alma and Herbert Avery.
Mrs. Williams attended Boston College and graduated from Iowa State University, where she was a proud member of Alpha Delta Phi. In 1941 she married Dr. McChord Williams, MD. The couple made their home in Charlotte, NC where he practiced surgery for 35 years. She often remarked that her priorities were the Lord Jesus, her family and her community. She was active in the Mecklenburg Medical Society Alliance, The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra Guild, of which she was a president, The Charlotte YWCA, of which she was a president, The Spectator Book Club, The Cranford Book Club and many others. She was also an active member of Myers Park Methodist church and a volunteer chaplain at Douglas Municipal Airport. She was also a member of both the DAR and The Society of Mayflower Descendents.
