Biographical / Historical
Miles Pinkney Pegram was born Nov. 27, 1834 and died Dec. 16, 1915. He served in the Confederate Army, Thirty-seventh infantry, during the Civil War. Pegram was the son of Winchester Pegram and Mary Stowe. He married Victoria Louise Tate, daughter of Thomas Randolph Tate and Annie Laura Humphries, November 1876. She was born 11 April 1853 and died 4 June 1882. Miles Pinckney was a prominent banker in Charlotte, being President of the First National Bank (The First National Bank of Charlotte, North Carolina was organized August, 1865). He owned considerable property in Gaston County in the latter part of the 1800s. He is listed many times in both the Grantor and Grantee indexes to real estate conveyances. He likewise owned property in Charlotte and other areas of Mecklenburg County. One who is interested in the extent and locations of property owned by the Pegram family can find pages of listings in the indexes to real estate conveyances of Gaston, Lincoln and Mecklenburg Counties of North Carolina, and in York County, South Carolina. Miles Pinckney Pegram is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte. He and Victoria had three children: THOMAS RANDOLPH PEGRAM (b. 5 Sept. 1877 or 78; d. 22 March 1941, never married); MILES PINCKNEY JR. (b. 12 Nov. 1879; d. 21 April 1932, in Charlotte); and his twin brother, VICTOR LEWIS PEGRAM (b. 12 Nov. 1879; d. 23 May 1881).
