Scope and Contents

This collection consists of twenty-one items (including essays, newspaper clippings and magazine articles) concerning primarily the theory that Abraham Lincoln was the son of Abraham Enloe of Rutherford county, NC. There is also an essay by Daniels concerning the social history of Fremont, NC and Aycock family genealogy.

Biographical / Historical

Selby Daniels was born on May 31, 1919 in Black Creek, NC to Ossie Richard and Annie Aycock Daniel. He attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC and served in the European Theater during World War II. He worked for E.J. Smith and Sons, a golf and turf equipment company, for 30 years. Daniels was very interested in North Carolina and Civil War history as well as genealogy. He was president of the Mecklenburg Genealogical Society and a member of the Civil War Roundtable. He also taught and lectured at UNCC, CPCC and various historical groups throughout the region. Daniels died in Charlotte on August 5, 2008.
