The Panama Canal Treaties of 1977 were signed by President Jimmy Carter and Omar Torrijos of Panama on September 7, 1977 and ratified by the United States Senate on April 18, 1978. These treaties return ownership of the Canal to Panama on January 1, 2000. A 1903 treaty had permanently vested ownership to the Unied States.

Contains letters, speeches, and position statements of U.S. Senators, including Jesse Helms and Robert Morgan of North Carolina. Also contains copies of the 1903 and 1977 treaties, U.S. government publications, pamphlets and articles by private interest groups, and Panamanian publications.
Divided into two series: 1. Position Statements (1977-1978), 2. Publications (1973-1978).
