Biographical / Historical
The North Carolina Print and Drawing Society (NCPDS) was formed in 1978 with the goal of "awakening a widening interest in the graphic arts in Carolina." The membership included printmakers, artists, and craftsmen, as well as persons interested in deepening their knowledge and appreciation of the arts. A non-profit tax-exempt organization, the NCPDS emphasized the arts of hand printmaking, drawing, and various print media, including etching, serigraphy, relief printing, and lithography. The society had a printmaking studio at Spirit Square Arts Center in Charlotte, where it held meetings, lectures and workshops, exhibits, provided work space for members, and maintained a 60-piece permanent collection. The NCPDS also sponsored an annual art exhibition that attracted national artists. The society's permanent collection was donated to the Cone University Center at UNC Charlotte after the NCPDS disbanded in 1991.
