Biographical History
James Edward Smoot (January 1, 1868-January 17, 1949) was the third son of Rev. James Franklin and Virginia Brittingham Smoot. He earned an MD from the Baltimore School of Medicine and the University
of Maryland 1893. He opened a medical practice in Concord, NC in 1894, practicing general medicine and minor surgery for 26 years.
Smoot was also interested in local history. He wrote and published Marshal Ney: Before and After Execution in 1929. Prior to his death in 1949 he had completed the manuscript of "An Encyclopedic History of Cabarrus County and Territory from 1732-1944."
