Biographical / Historical

Wesley Mancini was born on December 25, 1952 in a small town in Connecticut. He grew up with a single mom and two older half-sisters. He has been invovled in the textile business for years and established the company he still runs today, Wesley Mancini Ltd., in 1983. Mancini has won numerous awards, including the International Textile Market Association's Lifetime Achievement Award as well as the Arts and Science Council's Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 2000, Mancini started the Wesley Mancini Foundation in response to the uproar in the Charlotte community over the production of "Angels in America." The foundation sought to fund projects that foster the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals as full participants in the Charlotte community. Over the course of its existence, the foundation funded many such projects and closed down operations in 2013 after it made its final grant to the McColl Center for Art + Innovation. This final grant helped establish an artist-in-residence at the McColl Center whose goal was to advance LGBT rights and freedom of speech. Mancini operates out of his design studio in the South End of Charlotte and lives in SouthPark with his partner, Bob.
