Overview Post card (2/23/1949) from Kuralt, then a student at Charlotte's Central High School, to his journalism teacher Anne Batten, describing his visit to Washington, DC as one of the four winners of a Voice of Democracy speech writing contest sponsored by the National Association of Broadcasters. He met President Truman and Edward R. Murrow read his speech on his radio program.

Overview Records of a local anti-apartheid organization formed in 1985 by residents of Charlotte (N.C.), who were "concerned about the ongoing crisis in South Africa and neighboring countries." The organization sponsored a number of events, protested loans by local businesses to the South African government, and invited visits by speakers who would "share insights and information with citizens of our community."
