Scope and Contents Records of real estate transactions for lands in the Mallard Creek section of Mecklenburg County purchased by William T. Alexander I, William T. Alexander II, Mary Charlotte Alexander, and William T. Alexander III. Some of these deeds are located in oversize storage. Photocopies of them are found in this folder.

Scope and Contents Contains an essay on cotton by James Gilmer Alexander, son of William Tasse Alexander I. Also includes sewing patterns from the early 1900s, farmers bulletin, county political ticket, and picture book from Newell Junior High School (1954-55) and an issues of The Advocate and The Rambler (school newspapers from Alexander Graham High School and Charlotte High School).

Receipts for consumer goods, 1836 - 1919

Scope and Contents Early records include bills paid by William T. Alexander I, money paid to William T. Alexander I, records of household purchases, primarily food and clothing, and many pairs of shoes. [NOTE: this may be significant because accounts of the children of former captives attest to Alexanders’ generosity in buying his captives shoes, a very uncommon practice amongst enslavers.] Records from the 1900s include the purchase of a phonograph, a piano, and an automobile engine.
