Programs, Departments, and Course Files

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

From the Series: This series contains materials relating to the academic functions of Charlotte College from curriculum development and the admissions process all the way through graduation requirements and commencement. The files are intellectually divided into the following eleven subseries: Admissions, Enrollment, Registration, and Orientation; Scholarships; Curriculum, Class Schedules, and Course Catalogs; Programs, Departments, and Course Files; Adult Education Courses; Technical Institute; Examinations and Grade Statistics; Honor Societies, Honors, and Awards; Library; Faculty; and Convocation and Commencement.

The success of Charlotte College’s offering the community a junior college program to prepare students for transfer to a senior college is evidenced by the record of Charlotte College graduates in four-year schools. The files on student transfers to higher institutions in the Admissions, Enrollment, Registration, and Orientation subseries document this success. Related material can be found in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools files in the Accreditation subseries of the Administration series.

Class schedules from 1949-1965 as well as files on the library and specific academic departments and courses can be found in this series along with copies of examinations and grade statistics from numerous courses. The establishment of the Iota Lambda Chapter of the national honor society Phi Theta Kappa is documented as are other honors and awards, and several files relating to faculty contain materials such as the faculty handbook, constitution and bylaws, and information on housing.

The Scholarships subseries makes up a large portion of the series, containing over 90 files detailing scholarships such as the Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial scholarship, the Bonnie Cone Award, and scholarships from the Mecklenburg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Charlotte College’s Adult Education Program, which provided short courses for non-degree students, and the technical institute division, which offered training to potential employees of local industries are also documented in this series as is the implementation of entrance examinations for the undergraduate student body.

General enrollment statistics and files relating to foreign students can be found in the Admissions, Enrollment, Registration, and Orientation subseries, while enrollment data specific to the Adult Education program can be found in the Adult Education Courses subseries.
