Scope and Contents
This collection is divided into the following four series: Constitution and General Administration; Program Files; Publicity Files; and Scrapbooks, Photographs, and Memorabilia.
Accessing the Collection
Initially, under the 1970 structure, board positions were of volunteer status and were held by major student leaders such as the president of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the University Union Chairman. Beginning in 1972, students serving on the board became paid employees.
Under the name University Program Board (UPB), the board was composed entirely of students, except for the staff advisor to the board and the UPB secretary (from the staff of the Office of Student Activities). It consisted of a chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, treasurer, ten committee directors, and five at-large members.
The largest shift took place beginning in 2000 when significant evaluation and discussion occurred surrounding the University Program Board (UPB) and how best to meet the needs of the ever-changing student body. It was out of this discussion that the Campus Activities Board concept was developed, combining aspects of past board structure with structural enhancements to be more amenable to future demands and to uphold the academic mission of the university by providing social, recreational, cultural and intellectual activities for the entire campus community.

Dates were taken directly from original folder labels when possible. Contents were not examined for dates unless there was no date given on the folder.
There are no Folders 6-8 in Box 8 and no Folder 33 or 37 in Box 9.
On March 1, 2017 two files of contracts from the original UA0325 were destroyed per Series GU6 of the retention schedule. On March 2-3, 2017 seventeen files and approximately six unfoldered inches of purchase orders and invoices from the original UA0481 and UA0645 were destroyed.
