Scope and Contents
The collections is divided into thirteen series. See the Processing Information note for more information.
The series are as follows: Annual Reports; Policies, Manuals, and Handbooks; Accreditation; Strategic Planning and Budgets; Academic Programs and Curriculum Development; Committees and Councils; Grants and Research; Personnel Matters; Student and Alumni Matters; Educational Outreach; Outside Schools and Organizations; UNC Charlotte Offices; Alphabetical Subject Files.
The Annual Reports series contains annual reports from the College of Education and its predecessors from 1974-1975 to 1999-2000, with the exception of 1976-1977, 1995-1996, 1996-1997, and 1997-1998. Also included are an annual report from the Organized Service and Assistance to Public Schools (1995) and a supplement (1995). College of Education annual reports are arranged chronologically.
The Policies, Manuals, and Handbooks series consists of policy manuals from the College of Education and Allied Professions, UNC Charlotte policy statements, student appeals procedures, student teaching handbooks (1988, 2007), a teaching fellows handbook (1988), and various other manuals. Files are arranged alphabetically.
The Accreditation series includes institutional reports, self-studies, guidelines and professional standards, membership files, and other materials relating to numerous accrediting bodies. Several files relate to special education. Files pertaining to each of the various bodies have been grouped into the following five subseries: American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE); Council for Exceptional Children (CEC); National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction (SDPI); Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
The Strategic Planning and Budgets series contains five-year plans, an academic plan (1994), and files relating to the college’s mission statement and operations.
The Academic Programs and Curriculum Development series consists of material related to specific programs, certifications, or courses, including course proposals, curriculum changes, program review and self-study, and degree creation. Files are arranged alphabetically by program or course.
The Committees and Councils series includes general committee lists and files on specific groups such as the Faculty Council, Faculty Course and Curriculum Committee, Faculty Executive Committee, Faculty Grants Committee, Graduate Council, North Carolina Business Committee for Education, and Regional Issues Planning Committee, among others. Files are arranged alphabetically.
The Grants and Research series contains material related to faculty research, CID grants, institutional research, and other specific research projects such as the Garinger High School Drop-out Prevention research project. Also included is a file on guidelines for master’s research theses. Files are arranged alphabetically.
The Personnel Matters series contains a subseries of faculty minutes (1971-1992) along with other files related to various faculty and staff issues such as visiting scholars, position descriptions, professional development, and tenure criteria. Files are arranged alphabetically.
The Student and Alumni Matters series includes files on minority recruitment, student exchange, scholarships, freshman and post-graduate surveys, computer labs, and other student-related topics. For Hong Ik University’s exchange program, see the Outside Schools and Organizations series. Files are arranged alphabetically.
The files in the Educational Outreach series were received together as a separate accession and thus kept as a series when this collection was processed. The series consists of two annual report files and a faculty school service directory.
The Outside Schools and Organizations series is made up of materials relating to various other universities, consortiums, associations, foundations, local schools, businesses, and other organizations such as the Scottish Rite Clinic and the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC). Files are arranged alphabetically.
The UNC Charlotte Offices series consists of files pertaining to departments, centers, of offices at UNC Charlotte outside of the College of Education. These include but are not limited to Academic Affairs, Engineering, Graduate School, International Studies, Mathematics and Science Education Center, Media Services, Nursing, Registrar’s Office, and Office of Research. Files are arranged alphabetically.
The final series, Alphabetical Subject Files, includes the dean’s remaining subject files that did not fit easily into the other series. Examples of topics covered are adult education, commencement, curriculum library, day care, distance learning, honorary degrees, meetings, national examinations, Greek organizations, and surveys. Files are arranged alphabetically.

In 2018, approximately four inches of invoices and files related to tenure, external professional activities, and conflict of interest were discarded per retention schedule (5.1, 10.40, and 10.12). Due to this disposition, there are no folders 129 and 130 in Box 30, no folders 17-25 in Box 36, and no folders 38-42 in Box 37.
