Herbert Spaugh papers

Overview Papers of the pastor (1924-66) of Charlotte's Little Church on the Lane (Moravian Episcopal), who was also a bishop of the Moravian Church in America and leader in the Charlotte community. Includes correspondence (1921-78) relating to the church and to his denominational and civic activities, copies (1933-78) of his newspaper columns, and photographs.

Morris Speizman papers

Overview Papers of a Charlotte businessman, author, and Jewish community leader. Includes biographical material; typescript of his book, Our World to Come (1975); manuscript autobiography of his father, David S. Speizman (ca. 1873-1957), who immigrated from Poland in 1905; and correspondence with and material about Harry Golden.

Spirit Square Center for Arts and Education records

Overview Corporate, financial and program records of Spirit Square Center for Arts and Education, Inc. in Charlotte, N.C. During its 21-year existence (1976-1997) Spirit Square Center provided a venue for musical and theatrical performances, art classes and studios, and gallery space. It also served as an incubator for fledgling art groups, including the Charlotte Repertory Theater and the Light Factory.

Spratt family papers

Overview Photocopies of correspondence, memoirs, genealogical material, and clippings relating to the descendants of Thomas Spratt, one of the first white settlers in Mecklenburg County. Includes a memoir (1875) of Thomas Dryden Spratt with references to the disputed Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence.

Andrew Baxter Springs letter

Overview Three-page letter (12-15-1864) from Andrew Baxter Springs to Confederate Congressman F. B. Sexton. In the letter, Springs expresses his optimism about the Civil War, with specific references about Union general William T. Sherman and Confederate commander Robert E. Lee. Springs also extends an invitation to Sexton to spend the Congressional holiday recess with him at his plantation, "Springfield." Stanbrook Abbey Press publications
