United States Army 38th Evacuation Hospital collection

Overview Records of a medical unit, formed in 1940 by doctors at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now Carolinas Medical Center) to support front line aid stations during World War II in North Africa and Italy. Contains official reports, a unit history, photographs, correspondence, and maps of encampments. LeGette Blythe used much of this material in his published history of the Unit, 38th Evac (1966), which is documented in this collection with manuscripts, galleys, and page proofs. Abstract Lithograph of an architectural rendering of the U.S. Courthouse and Post Office on West Trade Street. This building was demolished in 1932 in order to build a larger structure. [The adjacent U.S. Mint Building was saved and re-erected in the Eastover section of Charlotte as the Mint Museum of Art].
