Levine Museum of the New South oral history projects

Scope and Contents The Levine Museum of the New South collection is divided into thirteen series that cover a variety of historical topics related to the Charlotte region during the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Museum staff, student interns and consultants conducted the interviews between 1990 and the early 2000s. Stewart Lillard papers

Overview Primarily papers relating to his research on Ralph Ellison. Includes correspondence with Ellison and others, notes, articles, and information on Ellison's South Carolina ancestors. Also includes material from Lillard's 1989 Charlotte city council campaign and political campaign materials from the Charlotte area. There is a small collection of assorted bumper stickers included.

Darryl Logsdon collection of Charlotte LGBTQ publications

Scope and Contents The collection consists of LGBTQ publications produced in Charlotte, North Carolina. The bulk of the material comprises newsletters. First Tuesday (1989-1992), represents the largest and most comprehensive run in the collection (18 issues). Additional titles include: North Carolina lesbian and gay pride (1993-1994), and Out Charlotte (1995).

Rev. Jeff Lowrance papers

Overview Contains the papers of Reverend Jeff Lowrance (1951-2007), a Presbyterian minister, who served six different congregations from 1975 to 2007. During his thirty-two year career he wrote over 1200 sermons, which make up the majority of this collection. In addition, this collection also includes notes on a variety of subject matter related to Christian and ministerial matters. Rev. Lowrance died of colon cancer on May 30, 2007.

Wesley Mancini papers

Overview The Wesley Mancini papers document the work of the Wesley Mancini Foundation as well as Mancini's textile design company, Wesley Mancini Ltd. Includes correspondence, grants and minutes from the foundation as well as numerous magazines and publications that feature articles about Mancini's textile firm and advocacy work.

Colbert Augustus "Pete" McKnight papers

Overview Papers of an editor of The Charlotte News (1949-54) and The Charlotte Observer (1955-76). Consists primarily of material relating to his service as editor of The Observer and as president and project director for the American Society of Newspaper Editors. Also includes material about his association with the Southern Education Reporting Service, family correspondence, speeches, and photographs.

J. Alex McMillan papers

Overview Papers relating to McMillan's services as a member of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners (1972-74) and as the principal organizer and president of the Spirit Square Development Group (1975-82). Includes correspondence, campaign material, reports, and newspaper clippings.

Frank McNinch papers

 Collection
Identifier: MS0426
Overview Frank McNinch was the mayor of Charlotte, NC from 1912 to 1917 and later was appointed to serve on the Federal Power Commission in 1930, becoming its Chairman in 1933. In 1937, President Roosevelt appointed McNinch to be the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. The collection contains mostly the papers he generated while working for these two federal commissions.
