Scope and Contents Primarily photocopies of articles published in the Mecklenburg Gazette, Mooresville Tribune, and Lake Norman Magazine about the history of North Mecklenburg and the Lake Norman area. Includes a nine-part article based on the Civil War letters of Joseph and Margaret Brawley Lipe of Iredell County. Also includes an essay, "Caldwell Family History," about descendants of the Lipe family.

Overview The collection consists mostly of land indentures, promissory notes, chattel mortgages and receipts for consumer goods concerning primarily the Cochran family in eastern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, dating from 1823 to 1889. The collection also includes a scrapbook of photographs of an obscure provenance, dating to the early twentieth century.
