Overview This collection consists of manuscripts and other material relating to Mary Norton Kratt's writing: including books, articles, and poetry (published and unpublished). The collection also includes photographs that she used in the development of Legacy: The Myers Park Story, and Charlotte: Spirit of the New South. There is also a large amount of research material that Kratt used in writing "Legacy: The Myers Park Story," "New South Women" and "Spirit of the New South."

Overview Clarence O. Kuester, Sr. was active with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and a tireless promoter of the city and its business potential. The collection also contains a significant assortment of papers concerning a theatrical production entitled “Shout Freedom” which was Kuester’s brain-child and was staged just after his death, in the spring of 1948.

Overview Collection 386 is a small, single-file collection of materials accumulated by Thomas G. Lane, of Charlotte, NC. Most of the materials concern local history, such as the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, and the Museum of the New South. This collection’s only photograph is a circuit photo of the Charlotte Police Department, dated 1949, that shows the entire police force.

Leaksville Woolen Mills Homestead Plant records

Overview Material relating to the history of a West Charlotte mill. Includes photocopies of a promotional piece (1900) and a notebook (1919-20) involving construction of mill #2, an historical essay by former executive vice president James P. Wilson, photographs, interviews with former employees, and a letter (1988) by Major League Baseball player Whitey "Pickle" Lockman describing his youth at Leaksville. Lockman played for the New York Giants.

McCoy family papers

Overview This collection contains papers and photographs generated by the McCoy and related families in Mecklenburg County, NC from 1796 to 2001. Most of the papers were produced by Albert McCoy (1843-1925), and smaller amount by his children. Other families related to the McCoys were the Gluyas, Houston, and Nisbet families. Because the McCoys owned slaves, some of the files in this collection concern a slave cemetery and traditional stories told by slaves that the McCoy family owned.
