Era before Brown vs. Board of Education oral history collection

Erlanger Mills, Inc. records

Overview Records of a textile mill which operated in Lexington, N.C. Contains affirmative action plans, financial analyses, income statements, labor policies and statistics, merchandising plans, operating reports and statistics, and strategic plans. The business was sold to Parkdale Mills of Gastonia, N.C. in 1972.

James H. Evans papers

Overview This collection of two items (a diary recorded in 1864 and 1865, and a New Testament) were the property of James H. Evans, of Company F, 7th Wisconsin Volunteers. Evans was taken prisoner and incarcerated at the POW Camp in Salisbury, NC. He died on January 28, 1865. A few of the diary entries that merit particular attention are for May 5 and 6, 1864 (the days when Evans saw combat and was taken prisoner), November 25 (an attempted prison break-out), Sunday, December 18 (when three men...

Festival in the Park records

Overview The Collection contains an assortment of records, photographs and ephemera accumulated by A. Grant Whitney and his daughter, Julie Whitney Austin, in their administration of the autumn's Festival in the Park, an annual weekend event in Charlotte, NC, since 1964. Also includes information on an off-shoot of the Festival held in the spring, called the Kings Drive Art Walk.
