H. H. Baxter papers

Frank McNinch papers

Overview Frank McNinch was the mayor of Charlotte, NC from 1912 to 1917 and later was appointed to serve on the Federal Power Commission in 1930, becoming its Chairman in 1933. In 1937, President Roosevelt appointed McNinch to be the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. The collection contains mostly the papers he generated while working for these two federal commissions.

Overview Papers of a UNC Charlotte professor and director of the Urban Institute, documenting his membership on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission. Consists primarily of rezoning petitions and related papers but also includes minutes and agendas, subject files, and correspondence.

Earl B. Horner, Sr. papers

Overview Engineering drawings for highway bridges designed primarily by Carolina Steel Bridge and Construction Company of Burlington, N.C. There are a few manuals on engineering specifications and practices, and a biographical sketch of Horner by Stanley A. Cook.

Springs family papers

Overview This collection contains a small amount of original and photocopied material about the Springs family. In addition, the UNC Charlotte Library also owns a microfilm copy of the Springs Family Papers on file at the Southern Historical Collection, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Springs Family Papers are organized in single, alphabetical series by folder title and format.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Charter Commission records

Overview Official records of a commission appointed to recommend a consolidated government for Mecklenburg County, the city of Charlotte, and the then five towns. Includes outlines and drafts of the charter and supporting documentation, minutes, maps, correspondence, presentations by and reports on the towns of Davidson and Huntersville, and information on consolidation in other cities.

Overview Primarily financial records concerning appropriations and expenditures of the city government, 1890s-1920s. Includes material relating to the overall budget and to schools, taxes, business licenses, payrolls, and Elmwood and Pinewood cemeteries. Also includes a copy of the petition (1919) to incorporate Myers Park and photographs of 25 mayors (ca. 1853-ca. 1953) and of 8 city commissioners (ca. 1917-ca. 1925).
