Scope and Contents One sterling key (4.9 cm) to the City of Charlotte embossed "Stan Brookshire, Mayor" on verso. The key was given to Betty Yelton Alexander in 1991 recognition of 30.5 years of service in the City of Charlotte Purchasing Department (1961-1991). Brookshire served as mayor of Charlotte from 1961-1969. Betty Yelton Alexander died in 2014 at age 82. She was a native of Rutherford County, NC but resided much of her adult life in Charlotte, NC. Student Oral History Project concerning the Charlotte African American community

Scope and Contents The collection consists of 50 interviewse conducted by UNC Charlotte students for a class in African Studies taught by Dr. Robert Smith between 2004 and 2006. The project was titled "Talk, Listen, and Learn: The Charlotte African American Oral History Project," and the purpose of the project was to chronicle and collect the histories of a wide cross-section of African Americans in the Charlotte area from the middle decades of the twentieth century until the mid-2000s.
